My first writing class ever was at Douglas College so I’m excited that the latest issue of Event opens with my poem “The professor opens” which is a reflection on some of the people who have taught me about poetry. Spot the references to Sina Queryas, Anne Carson, Betsy Warland, Leena Niemela, Jen Currin and my ginger twin Shannon Maguire!
As a bonus, Nathaniel Moore interviewed me about Waiting Room and you can read it on the Event blog. Thanks to Nathaniel for waiting months to me to finish the interview. The interview gives props to some of my other poetry superheroes like Jan Zwicky, Matea Kulic and Chelene Knight.
And now for more Douglas College fun… Kim Trainor as part of her outreach efforts for distressed poets (Kim Trainor’s Crepuscular Camp for Distressed Poets) invited me to Douglas College to read to her first year English students. This Surrey Girl made good. Or found grace. Or something.
